Crazy Things in Life

I am so bad at updating this thing... Well life has been crazy the last few months. We got home from Philmont in August and have hit the ground running. I have to get some things finalized for school at Weber State and Troy had to go to training for work. We had to unpack and put our house back together and fix a few things. We both started school on the 27 of August. We celebrated Troy's birthday on the 29th with just the two of us. We went to Toucanos Brazilian Restaurant (which was very very good) and he opened the gift I gave him. Then on Saturday we had a party at our house with my family and his family. Our house was packed! It was so much fun though.
While we were at Philmont, just before we got home, my sister had a baby boy! I am so excited to be an Aunt for the first time on my side of the family. We've spent a lot of time trying to help them out and be supportive. He had a few problems and was in the hospital for about a month. I'm so glad that doctor's know what they are doing. He is home now and is doing much better!
Yesterday ( September 15,2012) we went to the Brigham City Temple Open House. It was so beautiful and I can't wait to go and do a session there. The lines were really long and it was quite warm outside but being in the Temple was well worth it. Then we celebrated Kayla's birthday (Troy's sister)  at Troy's parent's house. It's always fun to be with family. We played some family volleyball and got eaten by mosquitoes, but it was fun.
I'm so grateful to be a member of two wonderful families. I am so grateful for a wonderful husband that takes good care of me and helps me become a better person. I can't believe how fast time is going and that we will be celebrating our one year anniversary next month. Life is wonderful!

Last thought for the day....some one at church said this today, "It doesn't matter how fast we run the race as long as we finish."

Summer Time

So it has been awhile since I've updated again.... I don't know why it's so hard for me to keep up on this. Well Troy and I are in New Mexico for the summer. We are working at Philmont Scout Ranch. I work in the Handicraft center and get to do crafts with kids all summer. Troy is the services manager and is in charge of all sorts of things. He stays pretty busy.

On our drive down here we stopped at Four Corners National Park and Mesa Verde. These are two places that I have always wanted to visit. I was very excited that we got to stop and see them. At Mesa Verde we had to climb up a huge ladder to get to some of the ruins... for some reason as I get older I become more and more afraid of heights.... I have no idea why but it just happened... so climbing this ladder was not easy... but I did it!!! My heart was racing and I had Troy feel my pulse and he was shocked at how fast my heart was pumping, but I'm still alive.

We arrived at Philmont on Friday of last week. So we haven't been here long, but it's a definite change from daily life in Salt Lake. I've decided that change is hard, but hopefully it will be worth it. The weather is great here and we are up in the mountains. Troy loves it, but he has also worked here two times before and came as a scout. I'm excited to share this adventure with him. Life is always full of surprises and new challenges... so here is to a summer full of adventures and challenges...

I will do my best to keep y'all posted on what we are doing, but the internet is sometimes spotty... Hope everyone is doing great! Have a fabulous summer!

Spring Break, and some catching up.

I really need to be better at this. So much has gone on these last few months. Troy and I applied to work at Philmont in New Mexico and we got the jobs. I will be working in the craft center at the training center. The training center is where all of the scout leaders come with their families. So I will get to work with their kids. Troy will also be working in the Training Center, only he will be in charge of setting of the conference rooms and overseeing a few workers. We will be leaving in June for the summer and we are both really excited. I am a little nervous because I don't know what to expect, but it should be full of adventures. We have some fun plans and I will do my best to post about them.

Speaking of adventures we recently went on one this past week for spring break. We went to Escalante,UT. It's called the Grand Staircase of Utah; this is because the mountains look like stairs. It's really cool. We camped all week with Troy's family and my parents. While we were there we went on several hikes. We hiked a small trail by our campsite that led us to a petrified forest. It was really neat. I remember learning about petrified wood in school and it was fun to see it in real life. We also went on a hike to some slot canyons called Spooky and Peek-a-boo. They were really awesome... in a tall canyon claustrophobic kind of way.  I've never seen anything like it before. We had to crawl, climb, and be lowered into holes. I am afraid of heights and this was a challenge to say the least. There was one part that was a huge drop in the canyon, and we had to help lower each other down the hole. Good thing Troy, my dad, Troy's dad, and his brother Cody where there to help.  I started to panic.... and if that wasn't a trust exercise I don't know what is.... needless to say I made it. Although, on the way back to our cars I rolled my ankle and had to limp up the hill.... haha oh well.
Despite some cold wind and low temperatures it was a fun trip. It was our first camping trip together as a married couple and we celebrated our 6 month anniversary. I can't believe how fast time is flying, but I guess that means we are having fun!

More Pictures

Hiking through some slot canyons.

There were so many fun hid-outs inside the canyons.

A cool arch-way we had to go under to continue.

This is what it looked like in front of us.

Troy in a little hid-out. He jumped out and scared his niece.

The walls were so close together.... it was kind of scary.

Here is the view from behind us.

Catch up on Pictures

A rock man we found while four-wheeling in the mountains.

Taking a quick picture on our hike up to see the petrified wood.

Here is some wood.

Mom and Dad came with us.

A list of new beginnings.

So far the month of January has been great and full of new beginnings. I started a new job working at a school district in Sandy and I love it. I am doing literacy tests on sudents and just enjoy being in the schools. I can't wait to go back to school and get my degree so that I can be in the school full time. Troy is still working away at his masters degree and teaching.

But something that's new for both of us is our calling in church. We are now the Sunday School teachers for the Jr. High age kids. We think they gave us that calling because it's between the two ages that we enjoy. Troy is used to High school kids and I'm used to Elementary kids. This shall be an exciting adventure.  I'm excited to get to know the kids in our ward and to learn and grow with them.

As for a list of new beginnings.... We set goals one night for FHE and I'm excited to see how we will do this year. Here are few of mine....

1- Go to the Temple more often
2- Exercise 3 to 5 times a week
3- Read a book a month
4- Finish my craft projects
5- Do more service
